there are some lines that stay with you for a lifetime. someone
gave me a scribbed note during one of the lowest points of my life.
they were words written by rilke. written from afar. the words
drew near. the same note has since helped me cross
other terrains that came my way. befriending ambivalence
and the occasional paradox. and mystery. eternity. sadness. loss.
and seeking. unlearning unfounded fears of ambiguity. vague
abstract terms that appear alien at first sight till you handle
them with your own hands and
find them a place within other lives lodged
in the clear bright space
of your one single life.

Be patient toward all that is unresolved in your heart.
Try to love the questions themselves.
Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given,
because you would not be able to live them.
And the point is, to live everything.
Live the questioning now.
Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing,
live along some distant day
into the answers.
